Pico Partido is a tall, imposing and dominating character - he'd never walk into a bar unnoticed. At 502 metres, this gentleman boldly displays his lavastream scarf, shining bright green with lichen after the december rains, against his classy, black cloak, which flows out around him. His lavalake hat, slightly at an angle, in the top of one of his peaks, seems even blacker........he's not a guy you'd want to pick a fight with.

Like all royalty, he does grant audiences to the lesser beings of this world. You should try going to one. You'll never have felt so infinitely small before.

He will also make sure you have little foothold so you need both arms as a balancing stick when you visit him. Which of course makes that big lump of a camera you dragged along with you totally superfluous, and even a tad annoying.
He definitely has a sense of humour.

Ladies and gentlemen - meet Alfredo.

Alfredo is, apart from being a raven, also the inhabitant and Royal Guard of Pico Partido, where he lives with his lovely wife Alfreda.
He also has a sweet beak and is perfectly informed about the patisserie delivery hours. The food delivery service (known to you and me as tourists on a volcano trek - but then, what do we know?) is only too happy to comply.
Alfreda, like a true lady, will stay coyly in the background - from where she supervises her husband's efforts at stocking up the kitchen larder.
